Virginia's 4 p.m. Burning Law Takes Effect Sunday

Virginia’s annual spring burning restrictions will be in effect February 15 through April 30 to help prevent wildfires during peak fire season.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • No open-air burning between midnight and 4 p.m.
  • Applies to fires within 300 feet of wooded areas or dry grass
  • Burning is permitted from 4 p.m. to midnight with the proper safety precautions
  • Violations may result in a Class 3 misdemeanor and fines

These seasonal restrictions are designed to reduce the risk of wildfires as warmer, windier conditions increase fire danger across the Commonwealth.
