This position acts as a representative of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. General duties include enforcing laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the local ordinances of Bedford County. Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain Virginia certification as a law enforcement officer. The application process typically last 6-12 weeks and the applicant must undergo a thorough background investigation to include a polygraph, psychological evaluation, and a medical exam. Candidates with current Virginia law enforcement certification or who are currently attending pre-employment certification programs will be given preference.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Degree Certificate or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Virginia operator's license at the time of employment.
- Must be (21) years of age by date of hire or completion of training academy.
- Must not have any felony convictions; a misdemeanor conviction may be grounds for dismissal but will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
- Must not use tobacco products on or off duty to ensure compliance with the Virginia Heart and Lung Laws.
