Accreditation

In 2026, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office received its sixth consecutive reaccreditation from the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC).

The Virginia Sheriff's Association, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Department of Criminal Justice Services make up the VLEPSC. Commission members consisting of active Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police establish professional standards and administer the accreditation process.

Out of 400 law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth, only around 115 (as of Dec. 2025) are accredited by the VLEPSC. Agencies must meet more than 190 professional standards.

Congratulations to every deputy, staff member, and volunteer who helps make the Bedford County Sheriff's Office one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the United States.
